Video Game Art Museum’s second guest-curated show, created by Manifesto-ish and titled Hip to Be Square, is now accessible:

Hip to Be Square is a collection of works selected from Video Game Art Archive. Hip to Be Square brings these background decorations to the forefront, re-contextualizing them within a virtual gallery setting. Removed from their intended purpose, these images shed original meanings and are given new life.

Manifesto-ish is an online artist collective created by four artists who shared space, time and ideas at the University of the Arts from 2008-2010. It was founded in part as an effort towards continued collaboration despite distance. More importantly, it was forged in an effort to both utilize and critique the digital technologies at our disposal as both humans and makers while creating a platform for sharing ideas, connecting with others and collaborating with artists and non-artists alike. "Inventory Objects" is a recurring series featuring images and descriptions of inventory items from graphical golden-era adventure games, compiled by Laine Nooney. They will be presented each weekend.

Laine Nooney is a media archaeologist and cultural historian of video games and computers. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Cultural Analysis and Theory at Stony Brook University.
